Migration Workbench Features and Benefits

Migration Workbench gets your migration completed faster, with less effort from your business users, fewer errors, and higher confidence in the result. Workbench's innovative features revolutionize the way migrations are performed.

Incremental Migrations

As data issues are discovered and resolved in the source system, updated documents are migrated to the target system. Because it's easy to migrate updated documents, data problems can be discovered early and resolved quickly.

Live-to-Live Migrations

There's no need to freeze your production systems. Throughout the migration, both the source system and the target system can remain live with users actively working on their documents. Workbench keeps migrated documents hidden in the target system so that they are not made active until they have been validated and cut over.

Migration Rules

Simple yet powerful migration rules are used to map attributes from the source to the target object model. Migration rules make it easy to handle exception cases and correct errors in metadata.  The power of rules doesn’t just apply to attribute mapping- rules can be used for metadata enrichment, content filtering and validation as well.

Dynamic Cutover

Critical documents can be prioritized and migrated independently of less important content, allowing business users to begin using the new content management system without waiting for every tiny data issue to be resolved.

Multiple Systems Support

Migration Workbench can migrate documents to and from Documentum, file systems, and Microsoft SharePoint Server 2007.

Partial Import

When a document's related objects such as users and ACLs are missing from the target repository, Workbench will use temporary values so that the migration doesn't have to exit in error. Later, when the target repository's configuration is updated, Workbench will update the document with the correct values.

Automatic Folder Creation

If Workbench tries to import a document into a folder that doesn't exist, it can create that folder automatically. You can also configure Workbench to create custom folder types, since many companies use them instead of the standard "dm_folder."

Doesn't Stop at Documents

Migration Workbench can migrate more than just documents. It can migrate Folders, Cabinets, Users, Groups, ACLs, Lifecycles, Virtual Documents, Relationships, and Renditions.

Lookup Tables

Attributes can be populated from lookup tables and spreadsheets, allowing business users to "enrich" a document's metadata during the migration.

Reporting Dashboard

Migration Workbench's reporting dashboard provides complete visibility into the status of your migration, showing which documents have been successfully migrated and which have errors still waiting to be resolved.

Preview Mode

When testing migration rules, Workbench can be run in preview mode. It will report on what imports, updates, and deletions are necessary without performing the operations in the target repository. This lets you tweak your rules without waiting for the import to complete, dramatically decreasing the time it takes to test and validate your migration.
