DIXI Features and Benefits

Below are the features and benefits for DIXI, Blue Fish's robust import/export tool. In some cases, you may require a full-featured migration product to transform and enrich information as it is transferred. When this is the case, we suggest Blue Fish Migration Workbench.

Export Documents and Everything about Them

When DIXI exports a document, it doesn't just work with the content. It can also export the metadata, folders, old versions, security permissions, renditions, translations and other relationships. DIXI can take on virtual document information, as well.

Export Users, Groups, ACLS, and More

If it lives in Documentum, DIXI can probably export it. DIXI can actually follow dependency chains, automatically exporting a document's Permission Set, the groups defined in the Permission Set, and the users defined in the groups.

Open XML-Based Architecture

DIXI stores metadata and other information in an XML format that can be read with a simple text editor and modified easily. This design allows you to transform the XML, mapping attributes or folders in the source repository to different ones in the target repository.

Automatically Create Folders

If DIXI tries to import a document into a folder that doesn't exist, it can create that folder automatically. You can also configure DIXI to create custom folder types, since many companies use them instead of the standard "dm_folder."

Version or Overwrite Documents upon Import

When DIXI imports a document that already exists in the target docbase, it can either version it or overwrite it.

Perform Imports in Test Mode

When you run DIXI in Test Mode, it will try to import each document, but it will not commit any changes. This allows you to identify any problems before performing the final import.

Wrap Imports in Transactions

The integrity of your data is important, so DIXI can import several documents as a part of a single transaction. This way, if any errors are encountered, DIXI can roll back the entire transaction to make sure you're not stuck with a partial import.

Robust Error Handling

When DIXI performs an import, any errors are written to a log file. When the problem is corrected, you can re-run the import, and DIXI will only attempt to work with the files that failed the first time. For example, if you try to import a new version of a document that is checked out, it will be ignored by the program until it is checked back in.

Import only Modified Documents

When importing documents from a file system, you can tell DIXI to import only files with a timestamp later than a certain date and time. This feature is useful for importing only those files that have changed since the last time you performed an import.

Manage High Volumes of Documents

DIXI has been used to migrate millions of documents. One of our clients uses DIXI to process over 40,000 documents a day.

Run Post-Import Commands

DIXI provides you with complete access to the Documentum API, so you can run any Documentum command as part of an import or export. You can start a workflow, send a notification, request a transformation, and more.

Supports Virtually any Documentum Repository

With DIXI, you can export documents from Documentum repositories going all the way back to EDMS98.
