New to the 7th Floor – Blue Fish Development Group

When Enterprise Content Management (ECM) expert Michael Trafton formed Blue Fish Development Group in 1999, he had two very specific goals in mind. First, he wanted to solve the biggest ECM challenges out there – and wanted his clients to be positively elated by the experience. Second, he wanted to build a business that attracted the brightest minds in the technology industry. He wanted to create an environment that smart, fun people would want to join…people that he'd love to work with during the day, and grab a beer with when the workday ended.

Blue Fish has clearly hit goal #1 out of the park. With a client satisfaction score practically unheard of in the technology services realm and huge global companies such as Dell, Southwest Airlines, and Lockheed Martin singing their praises, Blue Fish is proud to have made content management challenges a thing of the past for many of the world's most trusted brands.

But it's goal #2 that has Trafton ("Mikey" to his friends) even more excited. Ask anyone about their favorite part of the job and they wax poetic about their bright, motivated, and downright cool coworkers. Sure, the new office space on Omni's 7th floor (custom designed with help from the team's COO Jeff Philipp, who happens also to be an architect) helps, as do the happy hours, team bonding days on the lake, a recent ski trip, and lots of other perks. But mostly it's working every day with great people who will do just about anything to make sure that their clients are successful.

The strategy seems to be working. Blue Fish, which has been profitable since day one, has never been stronger. The company experienced record growth in both revenues and employee numbers in 2006, and seems to be continuing the trend. Since the start of 2007, Blue Fish has brought on 10 new team members and is hoping to hire 20 more. The newest Fish come from some of Austin's premier software companies and have been taking on larger and larger projects for Blue Fish's many international clients. In the past twelve months they have helped Footlocker sell its shoes online, Harley Davidson connect with dealers, and Bausch & Lomb launch its new Web site.

With deep expertise and experience developing solutions with EMC's Documentum content management software, Blue Fish was recently asked to give an unprecedented seven presentations at Documentum's annual "Momentum" conference. Each presentation centered around an innovative solution that was built to solve a client's complex content management challenge, and each one featured the client himself, explaining the incredible impact that Blue Fish has made on his business.

Perhaps the most remarkable thing about Blue Fish is what hasn't changed. As the company continues to grow and become recognized more broadly as one of the world's leaders in Enterprise Content Management, its basic strategy remains the same – tackle the biggest ECM challenges out there with the best team in the business, making sure that both clients and employees are excited to be a part of it all.
